1. Economics Olympiad African Challenge (EOAC) 2026

If you think about why prices change, how trade affects countries, or what actually drives development, and want to test that thinking against students across the continent.
An online economics competition designed specifically for African countries, with no national Economics Olympiad; Kenya is explicitly listed as eligible. Stage 1 is a 40-minute online exam. Top scorers advance to an oral round, and the best qualify for the International Final in Greece - fully funded, including flights and accommodation.
Stage 1 exam runs online from May 22-29. Registration closes May 19.
2. Ladder Internships - Summer 2026

For students who want real work experience - not a workshop or a simulation, but an actual role at an actual company, working remotely on real tasks.
Ladder places you in a paid internship at a fast-growing startup or company - tech, marketing, design, finance, and more. You work 5-10 hours a week for 8 weeks alongside an actual team on real deliverables. Fully remote, so you only need a computer and internet connection. The June 1 cohort deadline is April 13.
Full financial aid available for students with demonstrated need. Open to high school students and undergraduates globally, including Kenya.
3. Zawadi Africa Education Fund

For girls in Kenya who have the academic ability to go further but face financial barriers that make secondary school or university uncertain.
Zawadi Africa provides scholarships, mentorship, and ongoing support to help girls complete their education. Scholars are not just given funding - they are part of a community that follows their progress and advocates for them. Applications are reviewed on academic potential and financial need.
4. Global Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge (GYEC) 2026

For students who want to know if they can think under pressure, given a real business or social problem, build a solution fast, and pitch it convincingly.
An online hackathon where your team receives a surprise challenge and has one day to design a solution and present it. Organised out of Japan. You get global exposure, practice at rapid thinking and pitching, and if you do well, a path to the June global finals.
The registration fee is 10,000 yen per team. Fully virtual. Teams of 3-8.
5. Pulitzer Center Fighting Words Poetry Contest 2026

For students who write poetry and also pay attention to the world around them - this competition asks you to put both together.
You choose a piece of Pulitzer Center-supported journalism - reporting from anywhere in the world - read it closely, and write a poem that responds to and incorporates lines from it. Cash prizes, publication, and the skill of writing in direct conversation with real-world reporting. Now in its 9th year, open to students globally.

6. Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics (HCSSiM) 2026

For students who genuinely love mathematics - not solving problems quickly, but thinking carefully about why things are true - and want six weeks surrounded by people who feel the same.
A small, intensive residential program in Massachusetts with about 70 students total. You explore mathematics that does not appear in any school curriculum - graph theory, number theory, combinatorics - through daily problem sessions and seminars. No competition background required. Financial aid is available and they work to meet demonstrated need for international students.
Spots fill on a rolling basis - apply early. International students have attended before. Financial aid available.
